      Hi em,

Well when I was your age geeks and nerds were bad things, but to me it means something a little differnt now. It doens’t mean thick glasses, bad hair and no social life. Lots of people have embraced the word. So the fact that I like sci-fi, I use the internet and like science makes me a geek or a nerd. Being a geek or a nerd now is about liking what you like and realising that it is totally fine.

So I will watch star trek, I will wear tshirts with science puns on and I will talk about computer games in the pub. Brand me a geek and just try and mock me for it! Becasue I like it!

Exactly, Jamie! Now being a geek is a badge of honor, a way to be part of the tribe. I am even part of a facebook group called “The Nerd Army!” I am proud that I am a scientist, and know a lot of stuff, and have the skills to learn and understand more. And I am also glad for this project, because I think it glamorizes us geeks a little bit :).

I couldn’t agree more!! I love the things that used to get me picked on at school are the things that I embrace now. I have stopped trying to blend into the crowd like I tried to in high school and I am glad I let my personality shine. It is a running joke with my boyfriend and all my friends that I am a big geek… but thats what makes me the person I am and they all wouldn’t have me any other way! 😀

@em210198 If a geek is someone who is enthusiastic about a subject and studies hard, and a nerd is someone who is socially clueless, than I am a geek (and proud of it!), but not a nerd.

I wear Converse sneakers, I go to rock gigs, and I like to bake cakes. That’s pretty normal, right?

I would not call myself a geek, nor a nerd. Although many people may disagree with that when they point out that I “keep working” at the pub. I cannot help it!!
