there are just too many things to cover so we split it all up. for example. Just gives us a bit more of a description. Think of music. It is all music but there are loads of different types so we give it genres so we can find what we like.
for exaple:
Science> Physics> Solid state physics
Music> pop music> rubbish
I don’t know if you can tell by our answers but although we are all scientists we all know very different things about general science. That is because when you get to a degree, PhD or a science researcher job you have to be specialised in a certain small area of science. Therefore I know things about the brain, immune system and having a stroke… but I know hardly anything about physics or volcanoes for example. If there was only one type of science I think my head would explode with the amount of things you would have to know!!!
I think there is one, overarching way of becoming a science thinker: that means learning to use, understand and criticize the scientific method. It also means general critical thinking skills and filtering skills. But for the reasons the other scientists have said, even though we should have a lot of the same basic skills, we need to specialize in different kinds of science so that we gain enough technical knowledge to do our experiments and observations!
