A lot going on in this question. Well Uranium is normally a solid, it would be little lumps. I think we’re all used to seeing the toxic glowing sludge from cartoons and movies. I’m guessing a little here (though I have done a radiation protection course) I would say that it is unlikely that you would be killed too quickly. A couple of bad things might happen. If it was strong and you kept it near you you would get burns near where you had it. Get lots of burns and you could get an infection and die that way- lets give that option a couple of weeks to have you pushing up daisys.
Other way would be causing mutations- changes to cells and DNA. This might take a little longer to finisg you off.
Of couse this assumes that your not eating it, rolling around in it or shoving it up your nose. Do this and I’d give you a couple of days. I’d also say it was your own damn fault.
Brilliant, so all in all unless safely handled you are just looking at a matter of time scale and severity of mode of death. My advice is like Jamie always know what you are doing before you do anything with radioactive substances or chemicals and do the relevant training. I know health and safety sounds boring and people make fun of it… but unless you follow the rules us scientist can come into contact with some very hazardous stuff.
