I have won prizes for presentations, money and books. Nothing too exciting though and nothing I would call an award.

@em210198 I have won an award whilst studying, but not directly related to my degree. I was the Talks Secretary for RocSoc (Earth science students society) at my university, that is to say, I contacted other Earth scientists to come and give guest talks to our club’s members. Because of the work involved in organising this, I won a university award for ‘Most Employable Student’. I wasn’t expecting to win that, but I was very happy when I did 🙂

I have won a few awards, but like Jamie says nothing too exciting. A few small grants, a few teaching excellence awards, a service award. My greatest pride has come not from an award, exactly, but from some of my blog posts becoming “editor’s selections” and two of them making it into this year’s Open Lab anthology, which is a book of the year’s best online science writing.

I have won a couple of awards on presenting my research to the general public. It was quite satisfying and the competition is always exciting.

I will sound like a bit of a swot but I won an award for coming top of my degree class for my undergraduate neuroscience degree. I got a certificate and some cash, but the best thing was that I knew I was getting the prize as uni had sent me a letter telling me, but I didn’t tell anyone in my family until it was announced on graduation day and all you could hear was my mum louding saying “Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee”. I have told my tutor about the suprise so he wouldn’t mention anything when he met them and he still says it is the best reaction he has ever seen!
