Yes I do. I am a salsa teacher. I also get paid for my fun science show that I do.

@idunno Whilst I was studying for my geophysics degree, I worked during the holidays as a secretary. It was pretty dull – I didn’t particularly need to use my brain for it – but the money helped to fund my way through university, and it brought me into contact with local people from Leeds instead of being in a student bubble the whole time.

I’ve also taught some geology workshops to 9-10 year olds, helped out with the Schools Seismology Project, and been a student guide on university open days. Much more fun than the secretarial work!

Before I studied science, I worked in the music business.

Part of doing a PhD is teaching at the University. So that I have done for the last few years. Also, I decided to take some time off at the beginning of my first degree so I got a six month job in Cancun (that is in the Caribbean)…not bad at all. But I do not recommend leaving university once you started, it is very hard to get back in track.

I can work for the uni while I do my PhD to get some extra cash and some good experience by supervising groups in undergraduate practical classes. It is very fun and I love the teaching aspect of it. And it gives me some extra cash to spend on myself too!

This is my only job, though I will soon be starting a regular writing job that will pay a small amount of money.

By the time you get to the faculty stage, you do have enough money to live on, even if it’s not as much as friends of mine with just bachelor’s degrees who went into business. So between my job, my family, and roller derby, there is time for little else!
