  That is something you should ask my colleagues… However, I reckon I do fine. I really like what I do and that motivates me to do more, even when the conditions are not ideal or there are many difficulties in the way. In my view, if you really want to be good at something, science or anything else, you need two things at least: you must be very passionate about it and you must work hard on that. It also helps if you work with people who are good at what they do as well. You can always learn a lot from others and that can make you even better at your job….to answer your question…yes, i think I am pretty good 😉

  Yes, I do think I’m pretty good at my job. I’m proud of the impact I have on my students, my colleagues, and the people who read my blog. I also think I do some really interesting research, and I hope it will continue to have an impact on my field in the coming years.
  
  I think part of the reason I’m good at my job is that I have decided what my job is. I have made outreach a priority and that is something I enjoy. I have figured out what I want to do research on, and done it. So I’m happy, which makes me more effective and motivated.

  Yes I think I am good at the project I am doing, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have down moments where I lose my confidence a bit, especially when things go wrong. I find that if I ever feel like this it is best to clear your head and come back to the problem the next day with a fresh perspective on the situation and you normally feel much better able your abilities. A PhD is like a rollercoaster there will be very tough times when things seem to be going out of your control, but it is all worth it for the fun times were things are going right and you are getting good results!

  @miamimi Right now I am the new girl at Montserrat Volcano Observatory. I am asking the other scientists loads of questions, and I’m having to learn lots of new skills really quickly as well as using the knowledge I learnt during my university degree. So far I’m managing to keep up with everyone, so I think I’m doing an ok job, but I will be able to do an even better job once I’ve been here a bit longer 🙂
