It is a facinating place! There is so many new and intersting things out there. I had a telescope when I was younger and was facinated by the stars and the moon.
It is not my favourite area of science though- I do prefer to stick to studying our own little corner of space here on earth!
I really like space. When I was younger I used to like astronomy a lot. I still like it today but i am more interested on how does the universe actually works. So, not only space, but SPACETIME!!!
@smiffiieee Do I like space? Who wouldn’t want the opportunity to go up there? i’d like to follow in Buzz Aldrin’s footsteps and go deploy some seismometers on the Moon to monitor moon quakes. Until then though, I think I’ll stick with planet Earth and exploring volcanoes 🙂
Actually space is one of the areas of science in which I know relatively nothing about but I have a keen interest in outside of work. I love watching programmes on TV like Prof Brian Cox’s Wonders of the universe, as it makes me realise how amazing it is that we exist as a tiny part of a huge universe. I also on wednesday when to a really good lunar eclipse event at my local science museum. I signed up to get emails from the local astronomy club too so I might start doing some star gazing in my spare time!
Are you interested in space? What is your favourite thing about space?
@smiffiieee If you are ever lucky enough to have the opportunity to go to Big Island in Hawaii, you should go visit the astronomical observatories at the top of Mauna Kea volcano for sunset. It’s freezing cold up there (I wore 6 layers of clothing and was still shivering!) and hard to breathe because there’s less oxygen up there, but the night sky is amazing!!! We stopped off at the astronomical centre halfway down and were lucky enough to meet up with a university group who are looking for new stars and galaxies. They showed us the planet Saturn through one of their telescopes. Pretty cool 🙂

Oh Philippa, I wish I’d known that when I was there! My husband and I went to the Big Island for our honeymoon several years ago. 🙂
